Registered Spectrasonics Users may install their Spectrasonics instruments on additional computers provided that they are the primary computer owner and user.
There are multiple methods for installing your instrument onto an additional computer, including the following:
Method 1: The "Reinstall" Tab
Method 1 does not retain any user data (e.g. user patches, ratings, etc.) you may have from a previous installation.
The "Reinstall" tab of your Spectrasonics user account gives you the ability to reinstall your instrument(s) from scratch, anywhere in the world, 24/7. Here are the steps to reinstall from your user account:
1. Log into your Spectrasonics user account and navigate to the "Reinstall" tab.
Note: Your license comes with an allotted number of download credits by default, but should you run out, you can always purchase more downloads directly from the "Reinstall" tab by clicking the "Purchase More Downloads" link next to the instrument.
2. Choose the instrument you want to install and click the blue "Download Available" link next to it.
3. You will then see a notice to agree to. The notice confirms you are the original registered user, that you understand that the courtesy download is not an additional license, and that you will not allow your license to be used by another person.
4. After clicking AGREE, you will see the following page:
5. Open the new email from Spectrasonics in your inbox and click the link that corresponds to your system (Mac or Windows) to obtain a download manager for your instrument.
If you have any questions about how to proceed from there, please see the following Knowledgebase articles on how to install your instrument via download on Mac or Windows.
Method 2: Use Current External Drive with Additional Computer
Method 2 allows you to keep any user data (e.g. user patches, ratings, etc.) from your previous installation.
If your libraries are installed on an external hard drive, start by connecting your external drive to your new computer. From there, download and install the latest software update from the "Update" tab of your Spectrasonics user account. The software update will supply the standalone application and plugin files needed to get the instrument up and running on your system. Restart your computer, load the instrument, and complete the on-screen authorization steps if prompted.
After authorizing, you'll need to close and reopen the instrument. After reopening the instrument, you should see a message that says, “STEAM/SAGE folder not found – would you like to locate it?” From there, navigate to where the STEAM/SAGE folder is stored on your external drive, select it, and click "Open". This will create a link between your computer and the STEAM/SAGE folder on the external drive. After closing and reopening the instrument once more, you should be able to use the instrument on your system.
Method 3: Transfer STEAM/SAGE folder from Original Computer
Method 3 allows you to keep any user data (e.g. user patches, ratings, etc.) from your previous installation.
1. On your original computer, please navigate to the default location for the STEAM/SAGE folder here.
Note: If the STEAM/SAGE folder in the default location is an alias (Mac) or shortcut (PC), indicated by a small arrow in the corner of the folder icon, please use the alias/shortcut to guide you to your custom storage location for the STEAM/SAGE folder.
2. Copy the entire Spectrasonics folder onto an external hard drive before placing it in the default location on the second computer. For reference, the default location can be found here on Mac:
Macintosh HD / Users / [your username] / Library / Application Support / Spectrasonics
Note: To access the default location on Mac, open Finder, click "Go" in the menu bar, hold down the "option" key on your keyboard, select the hidden user "Library" folder that appears in the Go menu, then navigate to "Application Support".
On Windows, the default location can be found here:
C: ProgramData Spectrasonics
Note: If you don't see the ProgramData folder, click "View" in the top left corner of File Explorer, then check the "Hidden Items" box from the submenu.
3. Once the Spectrasonics folder is in place, download and install the latest software update for your instrument(s) from the "Update" tab of your Spectrasonics user account. The software update will supply the standalone application and plugin files needed to get the instrument up and running on the second computer. Restart your computer, load the instrument, and complete the on-screen authorization steps if prompted.
Method 4: Install with USB Installation Drive (Applicable to Boxed Version Purchases Only)
Method 4 does not retain any user data (e.g. user patches, ratings, etc.) you may have from a previous installation.
If you purchased the boxed version of your instrument, it should include a handy USB drive for easy installation. The USB drive can be used to install your instrument on any additional computers that you own and are using yourself. However, please keep in mind that this method of installing on additional computers will not include any user data from a previous installation.
If you don’t have a USB installation drive and are interested in getting one, registered Spectrasonics instrument owners can purchase a USB installation drive in our Webstore here.
