Bob Rice

Bob Rice is in the security business. Well, more accurately the business of making musicians feel secure.

There's a reason that icons Roger Waters, Lyle Mays, Chick Corea, Boz Scaggs, Frank Zappa, Van Dyke Parks, and Bonnie Raitt have relied so heavily on Bob. They're secure in knowing that he knows what he's doing that he'll just take care of it.

This composer, multi-instrumentalist, programmer, consultant, and engineer provides support (and security!) to musicians in the studio and on the road. Bob possesses an expertise that spans many disciplines, including mastering, archiving, sound design, FOH engineering, and instrument technology.

His first job after Cal State Long Beach was as Frank Zappa's main programmer and Synclavier tech. Bob's admiration for his former boss and mentor is evident. "If you think you know anything about editing or mixing," he laughs, "Just listen to 'Freak Out!,' 'Absolutely Free,' 'We're Only In It For the Money,' 'Lumpy Gravy,' 'Uncle Meat,' 'One Size Fits All,' 'Sheik Yerbouti,' or 'Joe's Garage.' All unique, all brilliant in their own way."

Bob has toured both the dark and light sides of the Earth with Roger Waters since 2006 as the digital audio editor and surround playback engineer for "The Dark Side of the Moon: Live" and has toured with Little Feat and Bonnie Raitt as both a bass and keyboard tech. Bob prepared Lyle Mays' keyboard rig for tours with the Pat Metheny Group and tech-prepped for Simon & Garfunkel's tour of New Zealand, Australia and Japan.

Bob is based out of NGP Mastering (Nervous Gerbil Productions), an audio restoration, digital mastering, and music production studio in Culver City.
