Spectrasonics Travels to ‘Narnia’

Composer Harry Gregson-Williams Makes Film Scores Breathe with Spectrasonics Virtual Instruments

With almost 50 major film scores to his name, Harry Gregson-Williams is one of the hardest working and most versatile film composers in Los Angeles. He’s had an extraordinarily busy year with major films including Ridley Scott’s ‘Kingdom of Heaven’, Tony Scott’s ‘Domino’ and the hit film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved classic, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia -The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’.

Harry tells us, “I have used Spectrasonics instruments in a variety of ways on many of my film scores.”

“My two most recent scores could not have been more different musically: I often had Stylus RMX up and available to me during the scoring of Tony Scott’s ‘Domino’, its instant ‘clocking’ to whatever I already had going in Cubase SX made it a dependable go-to device on any given cue as editing and manipulating parts via MIDI could be achieved quickly and creatively.“When putting a sonic palette together for ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, it was clear that a very organic approach would work best. No drum loops here! However, as an added layer to this very earthy and natural sound I incorporated Spectrasonics Atmosphere.

He continued, “Utilizing some well-chosen layers as a starting point, I put together a variety of pads and drones that blended seamlessly within a fully orchestrated cue, yet added a dimension of its own.”
